THEME: WISDOM PROTECTS AND PRESERVES LIFE
SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 2:7-8
“[7]He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; [8]He guards the paths of justice and preserves the way of His saints.”
REFLECTIONS
The truth is that those who come to know God and continue to walk with Him gain wisdom that guides their lives. Proverbs 2:7-8 reveals that, ‘‘[7]He (God) stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; [8]He guards the paths of justice and preserves the way of His saints.’’ This is a precious blessing to help us lead a happy and fulfilling life. He bestows discernment on the obedient—one of our most urgent needs to successfully navigate this fleeting life.
We are blessed to have a close relationship with God. Such an experience is life-giving and life-preserving. He guards the way of His saints, assuring them of divine protection, guidance in their actions, and fair treatment. With wisdom, knowledge becomes enjoyable, and wise choices help us avoid evil, harm, and unproductive living. When we dwell in the Lord, we are cautious and act with understanding, which protects us from the enemy’s traps and subjugation.
Allowing wisdom and knowledge to guide our choices and decisions adds value to our lives. Because discretion will protect us, and understanding will guard us (v.11). Everyone, especially today’s young people, should dwell in the Lord. In the Lord, the desire for worldly pleasures and the lure of a corrupt life that leads to death are abhorrent.
To avoid evil, guilt, regrets, woes, and pains, Solomon advises us to stay away from bad company and actions, “So you may walk in the way of goodness, And keep to the paths of righteousness”—verse 20. When we acknowledge God in our lives, He maintains a lasting covenant with us to make our lives meaningful, keep our paths clearer, be a pleasing sight in society, and ensure our judgments are sound. Then His promises become clear, so we can say: “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!” – Psalm 34:8.
