*Middlesbrough, UK -* The Teesside University Ghana Society (TUGS) made a vibrant and landmark appearance today at the Teesside University Freshers Week Community Day held at the Students’ Union Building.
The event brought together over 50 student societies and communities across the university, showcasing the rich diversity and culture on campus.
For TUGS, this year’s participation is historic. After years of absence from official university community events, the society was back in full colours — draped in red, gold and green, and flying the Ghana flag high.
Leading the TUGS team were *Mr. Ransford Kennedy Gyimah and Mr. Ian Okwei*, together with the executive team. The leaders welcomed hundreds of visitors to their stand, providing guidance and support to new and continuing Ghanaian students on pre-arrival, accommodation, part-time jobs, bank account setup, GP registration and settling into life in Teesside.
Speaking at the event, the leadership said the return marks a new chapter for the society.
> “This is just the beginning. The new team is poised to raise high the flag of Ghana. We are committed to fully participating in the 2-week long Freshers activities and beyond,” said Mr. Gyimah. Read Also: Trade Fair Lands Dispute: Historic Records Put Private Claims Under Scrutiny
The executives also announced that the society will roll out a series of partnership programs, career trainings, academic support sessions and socialization events throughout the 2025/26 academic year, under its motto: *Connect • Empower • Represent.*
The Teesside University Ghanaian Society (TUGS), established in 2019, remains the official home away from home for Ghanaian students — past, present and prospective.
New students who missed the Community Day are encouraged to join the society. https://dailydemocratnewsonline.com/
