Hon. Dr. Akwasi Opong-Fosu has officially declared his intention to contest the position of National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), promising to build a stronger, more united and future-ready party anchored on institutional development, grassroots empowerment and consensus.
Dr. Opong-Fosu, a former public servant with experience in local government, public administration, Parliament, ministerial responsibility and political organisation, said his decision was driven by a desire to use his experience to strengthen the party and prepare a new generation of leaders.
According to him, his years in public service had taught him important lessons about leadership, including the need for proximity to the people, strong institutions, consultation and accountability.
He said political organisation had also reinforced his conviction that no individual should become more important than the institution that provides the opportunity to serve.
“Not because I seek personal recognition and glory. Not because I feel entitled because of my contribution to the party,” Dr. Opong-Fosu said, explaining his decision to enter the contest.
He said extensive consultations across the party had convinced him that the current moment required leadership based on sacrifice and service rather than personal convenience. Read Also: Protect Women and Children, Betty Krosby Mensah Urges Authorities
He described his proposed leadership approach as one based on “conviction, not convenience; transformation, not transactions; systems, not factions; and consensus, not confrontation.”
Dr. Opong-Fosu said his vision was to make the NDC a continental gold standard political party through what he described as restoration, renewal and resetting.
He hinted that his ambition extended beyond a single electoral cycle, stressing the need to build a party with stronger institutions, empowered branches and constituencies, and a grassroots structure where service is recognised and rewarded.
Hon. Opong Fosu also pledged to promote the preparation of young people and women for leadership while encouraging internal competition that would not degenerate into permanent factions.
According to him, disagreements within the party must be addressed through dialogue and consensus, while the strength of the NDC should be demonstrated through discipline, organisation and results.
Dr. Opong-Fosu further said the NDC must be capable of consolidating its political gains, carrying forward the legacy of President John Dramani Mahama and preparing effectively for 2028 and beyond.
He envisioned a party in which every member would feel a sense of ownership and believe that their voice, service and future mattered.
“Until everyone counts, no one counts,” he said, outlining the principle he intends to make central to his leadership vision. https://dailydemocratnewsonline.com/
