Ghana, minister for Energy Dr Mathew opoku Prempeh has outlines Ghana’s efforts towards decarbonization to achieve net zero

The Minister expressed Ghana’s commitment towards the climate agenda.

He made this assurance at a panel sessions on the main stage and margins of the 2023 Africa Climate Summit (ACS) opened in Nairobi, Kenya.

“I walked the different gatherings through Ghana’s efforts at decarbonization within the broader context of our blue-print towards achieving net zero. This, I said, underscores our total commitment to the climate Agenda”.

Touching on the role of energy efficiency in Africa for the development of affordable, clean energy system for the future, Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh highlighted Ghana’s prioritization of energy efficiency which dates back to 2005 when they launched the appliance standards and labelling regime to date where they have passed legislations to back same.

He indicated that the Ministry’s lighting retrofit led to the savings of 124MW with 6000 CFLS deployed to replace 6000 incandescent lamps.

“On clean cooking, I further stressed that government policies and interventions have positively impacted on the clean cooking market today, keeping it on track for investments, scaling up and commercialization”.

The Energy Minister later, joined the Second Lady, Her Excellency, Hajia Samira Bawumia, a global Clean Cooking Champion at the First Lady’s Pavilion for an event dubbed “Women in Just Energy Transition”

“This year’s Summit, I have no doubt, will further give the needed currency to the topical issues on climate change within the African and global context”.
