The Reigning Miss Earth Ghana Queen and environmental Ambassador, Eunice Nkeyasen has stated that, the biggest environmental threat today is climate change saying, approximately 12 million hectares of forest are destroyed thereby, limiting nature’s ability to keep emissions out of the atmosphere.
Miss Eunice Nkeyasen represented Ghana in the international platform in the Philippines where she competed with 119 other Queens.
She is supported by fellow International Queens including Miss Earth England, Miss Earth Scotland, Miss Earth Burundi, Miss Earth Zambia, Miss Earth Cameroon, Miss Earth Nigeria, Miss Earth India and Miss Earth Bulgaria.
Miss Eunice Nkeyasen together with her team and fellow Queens would embarked on two week environmental tour across the Capital of Greater Accra and some selected regions.
They are to embark on activities such as tree planting, clean up exercise, courtesy calls, distribution of dustbins to lorry stations and schools, educational tours and visit tourist sites in Ghana.
She made this known at a press conference organized to announce her environmental project including up coming local activities and the launch of her foundation, to be held on the 2nd of June 2023.
According to her, man-made activities have become dangerous and the consequences deadly that, it is time people start paying attention to climate change and its activities in other to enhance resilience to its effect. “A healthy environment is one that is sustainable for a long period of time. It is the source of life for all “.
Miss Earth Ghana Queen averred that, tackling climate change is her primary top agenda and would educate young children about man’s contribution towards Climate change and global warming and its ripple effects on humanity.
She is optimistic that, before her reign ends as Miss Earth Ghana 2022, the climate change and global warming campaign would have increased knowledge about climate change and global warming.
Furthermore, increase knowledge about filth and its nagative effects on the communities; increase the number of trees planted in both Urban and rural areas by an additional one million trees.
Also, ensure that the amount of filth in urban cities are reduced to the barest minimum through the distribution of dustbins in selected communities.
“I therefore urge each and everyone to make a pledge today to say ” No to littering the environment” and ” Yes to proper waste nanagement ” and” Yes to planting trees “.
On her part, the Executive Representative for Eco-Earth Foundation, Guela Emefa Gagakuma explained that, Miss Earth Pageant is an annual international environmental-themed beauty pageant emanated from Philippines, promoting environmental awareness.
“In Ghana, the story is not different since its Inception in 2002. MISS EARTH GHANA Pageant rides on beauty pageant and entertainment as an effective tool to promoting environmental awareness”.
The aim of Miss Earth Ghana according to Emefa Gagakuma is to plant, nurture and follow up with the already planted trees to fully accomplish what they have started.
Other aim she mentioned is to cast the necessary spot light on the eco-tourism of Ghana, thereby eliciting lots of participation from Government, Private and Corporate individuals.
She said since the inception of the pageant in Ghana in 2002, The Eco-Earth Foundation together with the Miss Earth Ambassadors have tirelessly embarked on several activities that seeks to perpetuate the cause of the project which include International and local activities.
The Foundation she indicated, is currently embarking on a waste management, educatio and tree planting campaign dubbed Trash In Bin, Educate to Eradicate & Greening Ghana.
