BOST Offers Scholarship Support to 50 brilliant but needy students

Bulk Oil Storage & Transportation (BOST) Ltd. Company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Education to sponsor the education of 50 students who are brilliant but needy in communities within their operational areas.

Over 200 candidates were screen in some communities and 50 were deemed to have qualified to receive the BOST scholarship.
Among the Communities within BOST impacted areas where the students were selected include; Kpone and Shai Osuduku District in the Greater Accra Region, Lower Manya and Asuogyaman district in the Eastern Region, Kaasi Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region, Gonja district in the Savanna region, Savelugu district in the Northern region, West Mamprugu district in the North-East region and Balgatanga Municipality in the Upper East region.

BOST sponsorship package under the MOU signed comprises, accommodation, tuition, laptop, and a stipend to support their upkeep.

In a welcome address on behalf of BOST MD, the Head of Legal, Mrs. Harriet Amoah disclosed that, the main goal of the project is to train 50 engineers from BOST impacted areas within the various communities in the next (4) years, to enable them contribute positively to the development of their communities.

The Ministry of Health according to Madam Harriet, on the 9th of December 2021, wrote to BOST to partner them to provide scholarship to needy but brilliant students throughout the country, to pursue Engineering and Computer Science Degrees/courses at (7) public universities.

“BOST responded positively in line with its CSR policy on Education but insisted that such sponsorships from the company should go directly to its impacted Communities in the country”.

Among the BOST areas of focus as part of its corporate social responsibility she averred include Health, Education, Environmental protection and poverty reduction.

The Minister for Education, Hon. Yaw Osei Adutwum who was behind the laudable initiative, thanked Management of BOST for partnering Ministry of Education to give a brighter future to the needy but brilliant students in the various communities.

The initiative Dr. Adutwum revealed, forms part of the Ministry’s plans to transform education in the country and to respond to the needs of industry players and to be competitive.

According to the Minister, the initiative would encouraged Arts students who had the desire to offer engineering programmes in the universities, and also promote the study of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in the country.

He therefore, commended BOST for taking the lead to give a brighter future to the deprived needy but brilliant students, and urged other organizations to also emulate in other to produce more Engineers to move the country forward in the right direction.
