SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 44:3

REFLECTIONS
The bond between God and human beings is precious and enduring. God initiated, established, and has maintained this relationship at great cost to Himself. Nothing has been as expensive, demanding, or tested God’s love like the operation of our salvation, which is God-led, God-executed, and God-supervised. Saving humankind has been His preoccupation since the inception of sin. In this light, we have three outstanding promises from God. These unfailing promises are: i) He will save human beings from sin and eternal death (Genesis 3:15); ii) He will offer His only Son, Jesus Christ, as our propitiation (Matthew 1:21; John 3:16); and iii) He will send and give us the Holy Spirit to equip and prepare us for heaven, sealing our salvation in Christ (Ephesians 4:30).
This week, we want to appreciate and rejoice in God’s offer and promise of the Holy Spirit, without whom the expectation of redemption would elude us. The involvement and role of the Holy Spirit in mankind’s redemption cannot be fully grasped. However, it must be clear to everyone that without Him convicting the sinner, we remain oblivious to our spiritual nakedness and immaturity. It is the Holy Spirit’s responsibility to apply the great sacrifice of Jesus to an individual, transforming them and making them Christlike. With this background, we shall explore various promises of the Spirit that will help us mature in Christ.
Promise #85 emphasizes God’s determination to bless the chosen people, Israel, representing all humans needing salvation. In Isaiah 44:1-2, God precedes His promise with these words: “[1]“Yet hear now, O Jacob My servant, And Israel whom I have chosen. [2]Thus says the Lord who made you And formed you from the womb, who will help you: ‘Fear not, O Jacob My servant; And you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.” Jeshurun, while representing Israel, means “straight” or “upright.” Remember, God formed you from the womb; He chose you and will help you – this is why you should not fear. The promise in verse 3 is: “For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring.”
For those who thirst after God, the Lord will positively water and flood them with the Holy Spirit, through whose power they can accomplish God’s purpose. If God pours His Spirit upon you, it means you will be rich, prosperous, and abundant in the power and favor of the Spirit, and as you are watered, you can also hydrate other dry areas in the home, church, and society. Our daily prayer is to claim the promise of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, as we need Him for transformation and preparation for heaven. David recognized his need and pleaded profusely in his prayer of repentance: “[11]Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. [12]Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.” – Psalms 51:11-12. You may claim every promise, but the outstanding request is to have an outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
