THEME: PROMISE #66 – GOD, THE ROCK: THE SOLUTION TO OUR FEARS

SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 44:8
“Do not fear, nor be afraid; Have I not told you from that time, and declared it? You are My witnesses. Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one.’”

REFLECTIONS

In our world today, deep confusion exists everywhere—confusion galore. We are uncertain about how to live, relate, dress, talk, and what to believe. Unfortunately, there is confusion about living as a Christian, practising our faith, our conduct, and the nature of our commitment to God. This poses a dangerous predicament for humanity. A simple truth is embellished with lies, leaving people confused and indecisive. Due to our predispositions, we struggle to understand God’s clear word. We question believing His promises, yet God remains faithful to His promises.

Amidst the confusion about whether to believe what the Bible presents, we want to stress that we cause significant harm to ourselves by disregarding the precious, custom-made, fit-for-purpose promises in the Scriptures. Promise #66 re-echoes God’s open recommendation: “Do not fear, nor be afraid; Have I not told you from that time, and declared it? You are My witnesses. Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one.’” – Isaiah 44:8. This statement is clear and does not cause any confusion. We tend to be unnecessarily afraid of many things around us due to our confused minds, but God affirms His care and encourages us, “Do not fear, nor be afraid.”
It is essential to note that the promise for today distinguishes God as the only true, faithful, trustworthy, and ever-present deity. In His presence, confusion, fears, and anxieties disappear like vapour. As a Rock, He is solid; His word is authentic, His actions are pervasive, and His counsel is enduring. Every word of God is dependable; that is why the psalmist stated in Psalms 119:103, 111, 130, “[103] How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth! [111] Your testimonies I have taken as a heritage forever, For they are the rejoicing of my heart. [130] The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.”

When Hannah trusted God’s promise and experienced the wiping away of her tears along with the disappearance of her fears and worries, she declared in 1 Samuel 2:2, “No one is holy like the Lord, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.” He is the rock of our defence, strength, salvation, restoration, and hope. If you believe, God will do wonders for you and establish you (Exodus 15:11; Deuteronomy 4:35-36). He will drive away the objects of your fear. He will deal with your enemies and make you His witness of His great wonders and marvellous deeds.
