MONDAY
THEME: COUNT ON GOD’S FAITHFULNESS”
SCRIPTURE: Psalms 106:4,45
“[4]Remember me, O Lord, with the favor You have toward Your people. Oh, visit me with Your salvation, [45]And for their sake He remembered His covenant, And relented according to the multitude of His mercies.”
REFLECTIONS
That we may serve the Lord for who He is and trust His word is the essence of the teachings of the Bible. Micah 6:8 reminds us, “He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? No one is to be ignorant of what God requires of His people. His faithfulness, love, kindness, and mercy are everlasting. There is no God so merciful, patient, long-suffering, forgiving, ever-abiding, interactive, and passionate about our well-being and ultimate salvation than the Lord God Almighty, the Creator and Sustainer of the Universe.
Salvation history reveals how God has striven with people in every epoch to gain their attention and cooperation and save them. Israel’s experience and account throughout history mirror what humanity has become—defiant, careless, rebellious, unstable in faith, ignorant of what is good, and with the natural inkling and propensity to do evil rather than good. But God remains faithful and committed to our salvation, restoration, and glorification even in our rebellion, self-dependence, pride, and stiff-neckedness.
Though the author is unknown, Psalms 106 documents Israel’s persistent rebellions and God’s constant and everlasting mercies and faithfulness. It is a confession of the people’s sins and seeks to draw from God’s unfailing mercies. The chapter has a long catalog of Israel’s hard-headedness (verses 6-46). The people witnessed the display of God’s power, might, and actions of deliverance, but they soon forgot and committed unthinkable crimes. The inferences that they did not remember His wonders (v.7), soon forgot His works (v. 13) and forgot God their Savior (v.21) are scary accounts of ingratitude and faithlessness. Worse, they rebelled against the Holy Spirit (v. 33). However, verse 43 reads, “Many times He delivered them, But they rebelled in their counsel, And were brought low for their iniquity.” Even In their evil actions, God’s love was manifest to save them.
The account reveals for our edification and encouragement that God is always faithful. A careful study of this psalm shows how we, like Israel, relate to God unfairly. Our inconsistency in walking with Him remains detrimental to our survival and God’s promised eternal life. We have become glued to material things and worldliness, our faith depleted, and our spiritual lives deflated and empty. But despite our sad condition, this psalm builds hope and trust in God’s faithfulness. Beloved, confess to renew your love for God today and determine not to test Him with unbelief. Therefore, [1]Praise the Lord! Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. [48]Blessed be the Lord God of Israel From everlasting to everlasting! And let all the people say, “Amen!” Praise the Lord!”
