The recognition highlights Ekpe’s decades-long commitment to public-interest journalism, gender equality and inclusive storytelling, as well as her advocacy for stronger media ethics and greater representation of women in newsrooms and decision-making spaces.

The media organisation also acknowledged the impact of the Rebecca Ekpe Mentorship Programme, which has supported more than 100 emerging journalists and content creators, particularly young women. Through mentorship, leadership development and practical training in ethical journalism, digital storytelling and specialised reporting, the initiative is equipping participants with the skills and confidence to lead with integrity.

Beyond Ghana, AWIM noted that Ekpe continues to represent the country at regional and international media and governance forums, where she advocates for stronger media institutions and more inclusive journalism across Africa.

AWIM said Ekpe envisions an African media landscape where women are not only telling stories but also leading newsrooms, shaping media policies and mentoring future generations of journalists. http://dailydemocratnewsonline.com
