Palestine Marks 50 Years of Land Day Amid Renewed Call for Justice and Peace

Date:

The Palestinian people on Monday marked the 50th anniversary of Land Day with a strong reaffirmation of their enduring attachment to their land, while rejecting what they describe as continued Israeli occupation measures and calling for a just and lasting peace.
Observed annually on March 30, Land Day remains a defining moment in Palestinian history, symbolizing resistance against land dispossession and the broader struggle for national rights. On this milestone anniversary, Palestinians across their homeland and in the diaspora reflected on decades of displacement, hardship, and what they describe as persistent historical injustice.
In a statement marking the occasion, Palestinian authorities said their people continue to endure “brutal repression, forced displacement, and systematic discrimination,” citing numerous reports by international organizations that have documented alleged violations of international law.
Particular concern was raised over the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, where ongoing conflict has led to widespread destruction and significant loss of life. Palestinian officials described conditions there as dire, pointing to continued restrictions on humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts. In the West Bank and East Jerusalem, the statement highlighted increasing tensions, including reported settler violence, land annexation, and movement restrictions affecting daily life. Palestinian communities, it said, are increasingly fragmented and surrounded by security barriers and checkpoints.
The leadership also criticized recent Israeli policies, including proposed legislation and financial measures affecting Palestinian institutions, which they argue are aimed at weakening governance structures and pressuring the population.
Despite these challenges, Palestinians used the anniversary to reiterate their commitment to pursuing their long-standing aspirations, including the right of return, self-determination, and the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
They emphasized that Land Day will continue to serve as a symbol of resilience and unity for future generations, reinforcing what they describe as an unbreakable bond between the people and their land. http://www.ghanaweb.com
While condemning ongoing actions they see as undermining peace efforts, Palestinian leaders reaffirmed their willingness to engage in a political and diplomatic process. They expressed support for a negotiated resolution based on international legitimacy and the widely discussed two-state framework, which envisions peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians.
As the region continues to face uncertainty, the 50th anniversary of Land Day stands as both a remembrance of past struggles and a renewed call for justice, dignity, and lasting peace.
