The National Youth Authority (NYA) has officially announced the postponement of the much-anticipated National Youth Festival 2025 following the tragic helicopter crash that occurred in the Adanse Akurofuom District of the Ashanti Region on August 6. The crash claimed the lives of eight distinguished government officials who were en route to Obuasi, plunging the nation into deep mourning.
In a statement issued on August 7, the NYA expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the government, and the entire Ghanaian population. The Authority noted that the decision to postpone all scheduled Youth Festival activities is a mark of respect and solidarity during this period of national grief.
The festival, originally themed “Igniting Potential; Inspiring Change,” was expected to feature a series of youth-centered programs throughout August. However, the NYA stated that in consultation with stakeholders, new dates for the Youth Month events will be communicated in due course.
The NYA called on all young people and development partners to join in a collective moment of reflection and unity, emphasizing that the values of resilience and national solidarity must guide the country through this difficult time.
The Chief Executive Officer of the NYA, Osman A. Esq., reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to youth empowerment and national development despite the tragic setback.
