NLC Orders CLOGSAG To Cancel Planned Strike

Date:

The National Labour Commission (NLC) has directed the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana to immediately rescind its decision to embark on a nationwide strike, describing the action as unlawful.
In a press release issued on March 2026, the Commission said it had taken note of media reports announcing a planned nationwide strike by CLOGSAG scheduled to take effect on Monday.
According to the NLC, the declaration of the strike contravenes provisions of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), which regulates industrial actions in the country.
The Commission explained that under Sections 159 and 169 of the Labour Act, any party intending to embark on a strike is required to notify the other party involved in the dispute and the Commission at least seven days in advance.
The law further stipulates that a strike can only proceed after the expiration of the seven-day notice period and only if there has been no intervention by the Commission under Section 161 of the Act.
However, the NLC said CLOGSAG failed to comply with these provisions before announcing the planned strike action. Read Also: Ghana Garden Show Launches With Strong Green Business Focus
“Consequently, the declaration of the strike by CLOGSAG constitutes an illegality under the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651),” the Commission stated.
The Commission has therefore directed CLOGSAG to rescind its decision to proceed with the industrial action.
Meanwhile, the NLC has summoned the disputing parties to appear before the Commission on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM to address the matter.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring peaceful and harmonious industrial relations in the country in accordance with the law. http://dailydemocratnewsonline.com
