President John Dramani Mahama has commended Ghanaian workers for their unwavering dedication and contributions to national development, describing them as the “engine of our economy” and vowing to create a more supportive environment to help them thrive.
In a May Day message posted on Facebook, Mahama applauded the resilience of workers and underscored the importance of peace and stability as essential drivers of industrialisation, trade, and decent work. He aligned with the 2025 May Day theme: “Striving for peace and stability to drive industrialisation, trade, and decent work for social justice.”
Mahama emphasized that under his leadership, the government has been actively implementing economic policies aimed at stabilising the economy and stimulating job creation. These include initiatives like the 24-hour economy, the Adwumawura programme, the One Million Coders programme, and the newly launched National Apprenticeship Programme—all aimed at equipping Ghanaians with skills and decent employment opportunities.
He acknowledged the persistent national challenges—rising inflation, unemployment, and inadequate infrastructure—but assured workers that his administration remains committed to confronting these issues head-on.
Mahama also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen trade relationships and improve infrastructure in key sectors, including roads and energy, to support growth and create jobs.
Calling for unity, he urged both employers and employees to work in harmony to build a fairer, more prosperous Ghana.
“Let us all, employers and employees, commit to fostering a spirit of collaboration, understanding, and mutual respect,” he stated. “Let us work together to create a more prosperous and equitable Ghana.”
