The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has confirmed that calm has been restored at the Hamile Border Post in the Upper West Region following disturbances on Saturday evening, September 13, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Service, the unrest involved some members of the local community. Security agencies were swiftly deployed to the area to contain the situation and prevent further escalation.
The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the circumstances that led to the incident. GIS assured the public that appropriate measures will be taken once the findings are concluded.
“The Service appeals to the public and the community to remain calm and cooperative as the matter is thoroughly investigated. Updates will be provided in due course,” the statement noted.
The GIS further reassured the Hamile community of its commitment to maintaining peace, security, and smooth operations at the border.
The incident comes at a time when border security remains critical for trade, cross-border relations, and national security.
