The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has repatriated 55 foreign nationals intercepted in Tamale, in the Northern Region, after uncovering their involvement in alleged fraudulent schemes and their lack of valid immigration documents.
According to the GIS, the operation was carried out following a directive from the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, who instructed all Regional and Border Commanders to intensify crackdowns on cyber fraud and related immigration offences.
During the swoop, 38 Burkinabes were rescued from a suburb of Tamale where they were allegedly engaged in a network marketing scheme identified as NEOLIFE. Investigations revealed that none of them had proper travel documentation.
In a similar operation in another suburb of Tamale, an additional 17 Burkinabes were intercepted. Checks indicated they were involved in another questionable scheme, QNET, and were also without valid travel documents.
All 55 individuals were subsequently repatriated, with GIS assuring that the operations were conducted with respect for the safety and lawful treatment of the foreign nationals.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Ghana’s borders and cracking down on illegal migration and fraudulent activities that threaten national security and public safety.
