Esther Ambah Numaba Cobbah, President of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana and Founder of Strategic Communications Africa Ltd. (Stratcomm Africa), has been appointed President of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA). Her election marks a historic first, as she becomes the first African to lead the 70-year-old global public relations body headquartered in London.
Cobbah’s appointment underscores her distinguished leadership in communication and the growing influence of Africa in shaping the global PR landscape. With more than three decades of experience, she has led Stratcomm Africa to become an award-winning agency recognized internationally for excellence and innovation in communication.
Her numerous accolades include Ghana PR Personality of the Year (2013), CIMG Marketing Woman of the Year (2012), and Outstanding Woman of the Year at the 2022 GOWA Awards. In 2015, she was listed among the 50 Top Women in PR by PRNews USA. Stratcomm Africa also received the prestigious IPRA United Nations Award for PR and Sustainable Development in 2016.
Beyond her executive work, Cobbah has contributed significantly to the global PR community, serving as a judge for IPRA’s Golden World Awards for Excellence and as the only African member of the Association’s Governing Board over the past four years.
“We at IPR Ghana are immensely proud of this achievement,” said Peter Martey Agbeko, Chair of the IPR Ghana International Relations Committee. “Esther Cobbah’s leadership is a beacon for Africa and for professional communicators across the world. Her rise to this global position is both historic and inspirational.”
An alumna of Wesley Girls’ High School, the University of Ghana, and Cornell University, USA, Cobbah has consistently championed excellence, ethical communication, and professionalism. Her presidency is expected to usher in a new era of inclusion, innovation, and global collaboration in public relations.
