Afriyie Ankrah Calls for National Renewal-1

Date:

Presidential Envoy for Interfaith and Ecumenical Relations, Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has called on Ghanaians to embrace integrity, patriotism and responsibility as the country prepares for the second National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving scheduled for July 1, 2026.
Speaking at a media briefing ahead of the national observance, Mr. Afriyie Ankrah said the event is intended to unite Ghanaians in prayer, gratitude, reflection and renewed commitment to national development.
He described the maiden edition of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving held in 2025 as a historic success that brought together Christians, Muslims, traditional leaders, public institutions, businesses and civil society groups in a collective expression of gratitude to God.
According to him, the overwhelming participation demonstrated that despite differences in political affiliation, ethnicity, religion and social status, Ghanaians share a common desire for peace, prosperity and national progress. “The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving is more than an event. It is an opportunity to reflect on God’s goodness to our nation, seek divine wisdom for our leaders, peace for our communities and hope for future generations,” he said.
This year’s observance will be held under the theme, “Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want.” Mr. Afriyie Ankrah described the theme as timely, noting that Ghana, like many countries around the world, faces challenges relating to integrity, accountability, corruption, indiscipline, social cohesion and civic responsibility.
He stressed that while government policies and economic reforms remain important, sustainable national transformation must be grounded in strong moral and spiritual values.
“The Ghana we want cannot be built solely through infrastructure, economic reforms or political leadership. It must first be built in the hearts and minds of Ghanaians,” he stated.
Drawing inspiration from both the Bible and the Holy Quran, he said national transformation begins when citizens commit themselves to positive change and responsible conduct.
Mr. Afriyie Ankrah noted that the vision behind the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving reflects President John Dramani Mahama’s belief that national development should be anchored not only on economic growth but also on moral and spiritual foundations.
He said the annual event has become an important platform for strengthening interfaith collaboration, national cohesion and shared responsibility for Ghana’s future.
The Presidential Envoy appealed to corporate organizations, religious institutions, civil society groups, development partners, the media and individual citizens to support and actively participate in this year’s activities. http://dailydemocratnewsonline.com
“As we reset our values, we strengthen our communities. As we strengthen our communities, we strengthen our institutions and our democracy. Together, we can build the Ghana we want,” he said.
Mr. Afriyie Ankrah also announced that Apostle Dr. Eric Nyamekye, Chairman of The Church of Pentecost and President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, will deliver the sermon during the Christian observance. Sheikh Salman will serve as preacher for the Muslim community.
He explained that religious bodies would take increasing ownership of the annual event through a rotational leadership arrangement, with government providing guidance and support.
The second National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving will be observed nationwide on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, bringing together people of different faiths and backgrounds in a collective call for unity, gratitude and national renewal.
