The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has released GH¢2.6 billion to Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs) to facilitate payments to cocoa farmers for cocoa purchases across the country’s cocoa-growing regions.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 2, 2026, COCOBOD said the latest disbursement forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure farmers receive prompt payment for cocoa supplied through the approved purchasing system.
According to the Board, since the start of the 2025/26 cocoa crop season, it has paid a total of GH¢34.52 billion to Licensed Buying Companies for onward payment to farmers.
Out of the GH¢2.6 billion released, approximately GH¢1.4 billion has been earmarked to settle the remaining balances owed by Licensed Buying Companies to cocoa farmers for cocoa previously purchased on credit. Read Also: PRINPAG Calls for Stronger Flood Prevention Measures
COCOBOD said it is working closely with the Licensed Buying Companies to ensure all affected farmers receive their payments without further delay. It added that monitoring mechanisms have been put in place to ensure the funds reach the intended beneficiaries.
The Board acknowledged the patience, resilience and understanding shown by cocoa farmers during the payment delays and assured them that every farmer who legitimately sold cocoa through the approved purchasing system would receive full payment. http://www.ghanaweb.com
Farmers with outstanding payments have been encouraged to engage the Licensed Buying Company through which they sold their cocoa, while COCOBOD continues to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure the complete settlement of outstanding obligations.

The Board said the release of the funds reflects the government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of cocoa farmers and maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s cocoa industry.
COCOBOD further reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding farmers’ interests, improving livelihoods and strengthening the country’s cocoa value chain to ensure the long-term sustainability of the sector.
The statement also expressed appreciation to cocoa farmers for their continued dedication and immense contribution to Ghana’s economy, pledging continued collaboration with government and industry stakeholders to enhance the growth and resilience of the cocoa sector.
