The Founder of the Rebecca Ekpe Mentorship Program for Journalists and Content Creators and Vice President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Rebecca Ekpe, has called on journalists and content creators to use purposeful storytelling to promote Ghana’s tourism potential and drive national development.
Speaking at a training workshop on tourism, hospitality and business reporting in Accra on Thursday, April 30, 2026, she said Ghana stands at a defining moment where tourism can become a major engine for economic transformation if the country tells its stories effectively to the world.
Delivering a speech on the theme “Building Ghana’s Tourism Voice: A Call to Tell Our Story with Purpose,” she stressed that Ghana’s greatest tourism asset is not only its attractions, culture and heritage, but also how those stories are communicated globally.
According to her, the training was not simply about equipping journalists with reporting skills, but about building a movement of storytellers capable of shaping perceptions, attracting investment and inspiring travel to Ghana. “We are here to build a Tourism Press Corps that will shift us from routine reporting to strategic storytelling—stories that inspire travel, attract investment and shape global perception,” she stated.
She explained that storytelling has become a critical tool in promoting destinations in today’s competitive tourism industry, adding that journalists, bloggers and digital creators have a responsibility to produce compelling, credible and globally competitive content.
The GJA Vice President noted that tourism is built on experience, emotion and connection, emphasizing that the voices and platforms of journalists would play a central role in carrying Ghana’s image to the international community.
She further highlighted the importance of tourism to Ghana’s economy, noting that the sector contributes significantly to job creation, foreign exchange earnings, cultural preservation and local business growth. According to her, a vibrant tourism industry has the potential to empower communities, support entrepreneurship and position Ghana as a leading destination in Africa. http://dailydemocratnewsonline.com
“As Founder of the Rebecca Ekpe Mentorship Program, I firmly believe this: when we tell Ghana’s story with depth, creativity and purpose, we do more than inform, we transform,” she added.
She described the workshop, organized by Inter Tourism Expo Accra in collaboration with the Rebecca Ekpe Mentorship Program for Journalists and Content Creators and supported by Edern Garden Hotel, as timely and necessary for the growth of Ghana’s tourism sector.
She also expressed appreciation to the Chief Executive Officer of Inter Tourism Expo Accra, Emmanuel Treku, for sharing his decades of experience in the tourism industry with participants during the training session.
The workshop brought together journalists, media practitioners and content creators to build their capacity in tourism, hospitality and business reporting as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s tourism promotion agenda.
At the end of the training, certificates were presented to participants in recognition of their successful participation and commitment to promoting excellence in tourism and business reporting.
She concluded by urging participants to embrace their role in promoting Ghana positively, stressing that visibility drives growth and storytelling drives visibility.
“The future of Ghana’s tourism begins with us,” she said.
