Zoomlion Ghana Limited has issued a public disclaimer firmly distancing itself from illegal mining operations across the country, popularly known as galamsey. The company said it has taken note of reports indicating that excavators and other mining equipment bearing the name “Zoomlion” are being used in such activities, leading to a mistaken association with the Ghanaian waste management and sanitation giant.
In a statement from its Communications Directorate, Zoomlion Ghana clarified that it is not involved in any form of mining—legal or illegal—and has never supported or participated in galamsey. “The company does not own, operate, lease, or authorize the use of any equipment for mining purposes,” the statement read.
The confusion, according to Zoomlion Ghana, arises from equipment manufactured by Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science & Technology Co., Ltd., a Chinese company. While the name is similar, the Ghanaian company emphasized that the Chinese manufacturer is entirely independent and unaffiliated with it.
Zoomlion Ghana strongly disassociated itself from any illegal mining activity and cautioned the public and stakeholders against any misrepresentation. “Any use of such equipment in connection with illegal mining is without the knowledge, consent, or approval of Zoomlion Ghana Limited,” the company stressed.
The statement concluded with a call on the general public and regulatory authorities to disregard any false claims of the company’s involvement in illegal mining and to remain vigilant against misinformation.
