Zoomlion Defends Reputation Amid YEA Payment Issues, Highlights 18 Years of Service Excellence

Date:

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has responded to concerns raised by some operatives under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) Waste and Sanitation Module, providing clarification on its role and addressing issues related to the payment of allowances. The sanitation giant, which manages the operatives in collaboration with the Government of Ghana through the YEA, issued a press statement to clear up any misunderstandings and set the record straight.

The company explained that while it is responsible for managing the operatives and providing them with logistical support, including uniforms and working tools, the payment of allowances to the YEA workers is solely the responsibility of the government. The statement stressed that Zoomlion does not control the amount or timing of payments, but only facilitates the disbursement of funds once released by the government.

“We understand the concerns about delays in some regions, but Zoomlion is not responsible for these delays,” the company said. “The government has yet to disburse funds for the payment of allowances. However, as a gesture of goodwill, Zoomlion has, on several occasions, secured loans to pre-finance payments, despite this not being a contractual obligation.”

Commitment to Workers’ Well-being

The press statement further highlighted Zoomlion’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of the YEA operatives. While the contract does not require the company to offer compensation for injury or death, Zoomlion has on humanitarian grounds provided financial assistance to affected workers and their families. Additionally, the company shows appreciation to operatives by giving gifts of rice and oil at the end of each year.

Zoomlion also noted its long-standing partnership with the YEA, which has spanned 18 years. During this period, the company has maintained an impeccable record of timely salary payments and has invested in the professional development of its operatives, many of whom have progressed to become certified truck drivers.

Addressing False Claims and Moving Forward

The company condemned attempts to tarnish its reputation through misinformation, calling for constructive dialogue rather than public accusations. Zoomlion reiterated its commitment to the highest standards of waste management service delivery, as demonstrated through its projects, including the establishment of modern waste recycling and medical waste treatment plants across all 16 regions of Ghana.

In line with modernising waste management, the company announced the launch of a new “Change Your Borla Style” e-payment system, aimed at making waste collection payments seamless for Ghanaians.

Zoomlion emphasized that it remains committed to ethical business practices and is open to collaboration with stakeholders to address any concerns. “We will not be distracted by publications intended to harm our hard-earned reputation, both locally and globally,” the company declared.
