The Chiefs and elders of Ngleshie Alata held a press conference in response to the brutal murder of Nii Ayitey Konko V, the Chief Priest of Ngleshie Alata James Town, who had served in the role for over a decade. The spokesperson for the group revealed that Nii Ayitey Konko had faced numerous threats from thugs allegedly connected to Dr. Prince Asharku Bruce-Quaye and Nii Appiah, following the death of Obrinpong Kwadwo Ababio V.
According to the spokesperson, these threats culminated in a physical attack on Nii Ayitey Konko, who had repeatedly lodged complaints with the Ghana Police Service. On August 29, 2024, he applied for an official extract from the police, but despite his pleas, no action was taken. The Chief Priest’s concerns were brought up again at a recent meeting organized by the Regional Coordinating Council, which was chaired by the Regional Minister. During the meeting, Nii Ayitey Konko expressed his fears for his life, prompting the Regional Minister to instruct Regional Police Commander Mr. Arhin to take immediate action. However, these directives were ignored, and shortly afterward, the Chief Priest was killed.
The Chiefs accused the Regional Police Command of complicity, alleging that they supported Dr. Prince Asharku Bruce-Quaye and Nii Appiah in their illegal occupation of the Ngleshie Alata Palace. On September 19, 2024, Nii Ayitey Konko petitioned the Regional Police Command and the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards (PIPS) Unit, demanding to know why no action had been taken despite the threats.
The spokesperson quoted from Nii Ayitey Konko’s petition, stating: “My life is in danger with a lot of threats from these thugs. If I lose my life, I have no one to blame but the Ghana Police.”
The Chiefs and elders called on President Akufo-Addo to intervene immediately, demanding the arrest of all individuals involved in the Chief Priest’s murder. They also urged the Regional Minister to investigate why the Regional Police Commander failed to act on his orders. The group vowed to resist further intimidation by the alleged thugs and landguards connected to Dr. Asharku Bruce-Quaye and Nii Appiah.
“We cannot continue to be intimidated by the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arhin. We will stand up and resist these oppressors and the thugs who murdered our Chief Priest,” the spokesperson declared.
Among the chiefs present at the press conference were Nii Okojaman, the Dzaatsese of Ngleshie Alata, the Acting President of Ngleshie Alata, Nii Armaah Kwafio II, and Nii Ayi Okufoubour, the Lafa Mantse
