The 1984 Alumni group of Anlo Senior High School (ANSECO) has embarked on a fundraising initiative aimed at rebuilding the school’s academic block, which has remained in its original state since its construction decades ago. This announcement was made during a press launch led by Dr. Gideon Amenyedor, School Prefect of the 1984 year group, emphasizing the importance of giving back to one’s alma mater.
In his address, Dr. Amenyedor highlighted the school’s significant history and its role in shaping numerous professionals across various fields, including medicine, law, engineering, and journalism. Founded in 1959 by prominent figures such as Togbui Adeladza II, Mr. C.K. Fiagbe, and Mr. J.W.K. Doe, ANSECO has long been recognized as a beacon of academic excellence in the Volta Region.
However, despite the school’s rich history and academic successes, it continues to struggle with basic infrastructure needs, particularly as enrollment has surged under Ghana’s Free Senior High School policy. The lack of adequate classrooms, laboratories, and dormitories has placed immense pressure on the school’s facilities.
In response, the 1984 Alumni group, led by Chairman Lawyer Ebenezer Gohoho and supported by notable members like Lawyer Stanley Raja Ahorlu, plans to host a fundraising dinner at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra on October 26, 2024. The event is expected to draw stakeholders, alumni, and well-meaning Ghanaians to contribute towards rebuilding the dilapidated academic block.
Dr. Amenyedor also took the opportunity to shed light on the ongoing devastation caused by tidal waves along the Volta Coastline, affecting communities from Anyanui through Anloga to Aflao. While efforts by the government, political parties, and NGOs are commendable, he urged for a more permanent solution to the crisis.
The 1984 year group hopes that the fundraiser will not only bring together alumni and community leaders but also inspire all those who have benefited from the school’s resources to contribute generously to its restoration. The new academic block will symbolize ANSECO’s enduring legacy and its role in shaping the future of Anlo and beyond.
