FRIDAY
THEME: INVINCIBLE DAVID: THE LORD WAS WITH HIM“
SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 18:12,14
“[12]Now Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him, but had departed from Saul. [14]And David behaved wisely in all his ways, and the Lord was with him.”
REFLECTIONS:
Christians are blessed with a rare privilege and power they take for granted or underestimate. No one truly connected to God will be powerless. It does not happen, and it will not happen. Those who remain and abide in Christ have the power of the Holy Spirit promised and will be fulfilled earnestly. There is no person who, in their right frame of mind, desires failure. Everyone yearns and primarily strives for success. But success is born on the tree of faithfulness to God.
For the believer, Christ’s words keep ringing in our ears: “[4]Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. [5]“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. [7]If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” – John 15:4-5,7. These words resonate well with our desire to live the Christian life, acknowledging that God is the architect and foundation of our success.
David’s life was always in danger as his vilest enemy, Saul, schemed to kill him. God foiled each attempt and saved him. This is the privilege every faithful believer has in God. The account in 1 Samuel 18:12-16,28-29 states: [12]Now Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him, but had departed from Saul. [13]Therefore Saul removed him from his presence, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people. [14]And David behaved wisely in all his ways, and the Lord was with him. [15]Therefore, when Saul saw that he behaved very wisely, he was afraid of him. [16]But all Israel and Judah loved David, because he went out and came in before them.” [28]Thus Saul saw and knew that the Lord was with David, and that Michal, Saul’s daughter, loved him; [29]and Saul was still more afraid of David. So Saul became David’s enemy continually.” God defied Saul’s show of power and replaced him with David as king.
Meditate and appreciate the power of living in God. Saul was afraid of David because the Lord was with him. The moment you are in God, wicked people will fear you. Your presence is a significant discomfort for them. That David behaved wisely in all his ways and the Lord was with him heightened Saul’s fear. When you walk with God, you will naturally behave wisely because He leads you, which scares the enemy and gives you victory. As long as you are in Christ, dangers and struggles will not cease; they will come, but you will surmount them one after the other to the glory of God. David had the favor of God and man (verse 16) – Saul attested that God was with David, and he trembled. Darkness cannot subdue or live with light – thus, David became Saul’s enemy continually. Eventually, the enemy was taken out of the scene, and God placed David on the throne. Victory is through grace and success is abiding in God.
