From the organizers of the Koforidua Fufu Party and the Koforidua Marathon, Wise Ink Concepts, comes the maiden edition of the popular ‘Waakye’ festival. This event, which aims to promote the local Ghanaian dish Waakye, is set to take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024.
The word “waakye” is derived from the Hausa language and is a contracted form of “shinkafa da wake,” meaning rice and beans. This dish has its origins in Northern Ghana, particularly within the Hausa communities, where rice and beans are staple crops.
This inaugural festival promises to be an event to remember, with the theme “Community Revitalization Through Cultural Culinary Festival.” It will feature an impressive lineup of local and international cuisine, cooking demonstrations, free health and dental screenings, children’s playgrounds, a game park, and fun activities such as rap battles, dance competitions, eating contests, and live entertainment with musical performances by various artists.
The festival will host over 30 food stalls offering a diverse range of dishes, from traditional favorites to innovative creations. There will be cooking competitions and demonstrations, live music, and performances to keep attendees entertained. Patrons will also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite food vendors and participate in meet-and-greet sessions with renowned Ghanaian celebrities.
Don’t miss out on the culinary event of the year! The Waakye Festival in Kasoa and Gomoa East takes place on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 6 am to 10 pm at the Zion School Park in Kakraba Adade, Gomoa East, Kasoa. Prepare to indulge in a day of gastronomic delight.
Attendees will also be thrilled with performances by Ghanaian musicians, including Koo Ntakra, Santrofie, Babylow, Fresh Wan GH, Bush Girl, Vapour, Shatta Ratty, and other special surprises.
