MONDAY
THEME: CONFIDENCE IN GOD’S POWER”
SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 30:4-5
“[4]Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son’s name, If you know? [5]Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.”
REFLECTIONS
Every believer must have confidence in God’s word and power. The word of God has the power to transform, elicit hope, and inspire action. We live by hope daily because we hardly know precisely what will happen in the next minute. We hope what we plan and intend to do will happen, barring unforeseen circumstances (force majeure). However, we are more assured that our desire will happen as intended, provided God endorses our plan. Our confidence in God, His word, and His leading will give us hope that is not disappointing.
To fortify our confidence, which is translated into our dependence on God and His word, we need to remember who God is and what He can do constantly. Proverbs 30:4 asks some rhetorical questions for our consideration: “Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son’s name, If you know?” These questions compare with the rhetorical questions God posed in Job 38. The questions help us reflect, affirm, and anchor our faith in a powerful, all-knowing, ever-present, ever-faithful, and glorious God.
Your confidence is as good as your hope in the Lord Jesus Christ. Psalms 71:5-6 affirms, “[5]For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth. [6]By You, I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb. My praise shall be continually of You.” Where else would you find solace than in God? This passage, together with the rhetorical questions above, helps us to acquaint ourselves with God as One who is interactive, near, close to His people, down to earth, approachable, caring, and loving without limit.
Beloved, do not place your confidence in anything ephemeral because you will soon realize how useless and undependable they are. But confidence in the Almighty God is absolute wisdom. Let us ponder Jeremiah 17:13, which says: “O Lord, the hope of Israel, All who forsake You shall be ashamed. “Those who depart from Me Shall be written in the earth, Because they have forsaken the Lord, The fountain of living waters.” Let your confidence be in the Lord, the fountain of living waters, to make your life worth living.
