Dodowa, Katamanso Forests Declare As No Go Area by  Titus-Glover

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover has officially declared Dodowa Forest and Pinkwai Forest Reserve at Katamanso in the Greater Accra Region as “No Go” area.

The Minister warned that, they don’t want to see any human activity in the way of construction at the two forests.

This came to light at an emergency meeting held in Accra by the Greater Accra RESEC, to find a lasting solution to disputes between the people of Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region and the people of Obosomase in the Eastern Region, in connection with the Dodowa forest and Pinkwai forest at Katamanso.

In addition, Hon. Titus-Glover said, REGSEC would arrange with the Forestry Commissions and go to the two forest, to replant the destroyed trees to regain the forest.

He further called on those claiming ownership of the forest from Obosomase to produce their documents likewise, the Shai Stool to also do same saying, they would lais with the Lands Commissions since there is a complete boundary between Eastern Region and the Greater Accra Region so that, sanity can be prevailed in the two Regions.

“Our duty as Regional Security Council is to protect lives and property. So, we don’t want any clashes between residents of Dodowa and the people of Obosomase, so that we will be able to go to this matter appropriately”.

The emergency meeting came about when the Regional Minister led the regional security council members on the 11th of July to the Reginal house of chiefs in Dodowa

Earlier on, the Acting President of the Regional House of Chiefs, His Royal Highness, Prof. Nii Oboade Notse Odaifio Welentsi III has commented that he wanted the Regional Security Council to intervene immediately.

The Regional Security Council therefore resolved that, Dodowa forest, Katamanso Pinkwai forest is declared a security zone.

The Minister was informed immediately they arrived in Dodowa, by the registrar together with the Chief Executive for Shai District Assembly that the Dodowa forest is being destroyed by some individuals allegedly from Obosomase area.

So therefore, Hon. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover together with RESEC members, decided to walk from the regional house of chiefs to the Dodowa forest to verify but to their surprise, right at the roadside, it looks like a forest so they entered and realize that, behind it, the forest is gone.

“The Dodowa forests and the Katamanso Pinkwai forest is the landmark for the Ga-Dangbe people. It has a rich significant for the Ga-Dangme people”.
