The Lister Educational Institute in partnership with six other state institutions are about to unveil the National Heritage Quiz Competition which is aimed resurrecting Ghana’s dead culture.
The focus is to ensure that the new generation knows their culture and heritage in other to secure and keep it for the next generations to come.
The main motive of the Quiz Competition is to resurrect Ghana’s dead cultural values that were laid down by its ancestors to preserve the country’s traditions, language, and customs.
The National Heritage Quiz Competition slated for August this year 2024, is expected to be officially launched in July.
Addressing the media at a press conference, the Executive Director of National Heritage Quiz Competition LBG, Mr. Kwaku Owusu Appiah revealed that, the Quiz Competition is a significant event that would give a lot of opportunities to students.
“We recognize the diversity that makes our nation strong and vibrant. This competition is just not about winning or losing but, about understanding and embracing our shared history and culture”.
According to Mr. Owusu Appiah, the purpose of the quiz competition is to promote cultural heritage through tourism, patriotism, tolerance, and discipline among the citizenry and the student body.
He, therefore, appeals to the general public, especially the media, students, traditional authorities, religious organizations as well as individuals, to avail themselves and support the initiative.
“We would also like to seize this opportunity to call on the corporate world to support this worthy course as we will soon approach them for assistance”.
Mr. Owusu commended partners of the initiative namely, the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Ghana Tourism Authority, National Commission on Culture, National Folklore Board, Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and Ghana Broadcasting Corporation as their main media partner and Lister Educational Institute for their immense support.
He disclosed that the Quiz Competition would be organized among the Second Cycle Institutions across the country which would include those in Senior High Schools, Senior High Technical, TVET, and STEM schools.
“The quiz will be held at the zonal, regional, and national levels. The zoning will be done by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and Ghana TVET Service. At the zonal level, a durbar would be held in the community to sensitize the community on the Ghanaian cultural values which include behavioral change”.
He affirmed that the first and second winners from each zone would qualify to the regional level where first and second winners from the regional level would qualify to the round of thirty-two (32) at the national level to compete for the ultimate.
The quiz Mr. Appiah indicated, would be organized in such a way that the participating schools would be given areas of topics to study.
He urged the youth, to continue to explore and learn about Ghana’s heritage. “Ask questions, seek answers, and never stop discovering. You are the future custodians of our heritage and it is your responsibility to preserve and pass it on to future generations”.
