The Founder and President of Family Health University College, Prof. Enyonam Yao Kwawukume, has encouraged the Family Health School of Nursing and Midwifery matriculants to uphold the institution’s core values of leadership, integrity, lifelong learning, innovation, compassion, inclusiveness and teamwork, to be relevant, not only to their chosen profession, but also to their overall success as individuals.
He also charged the matriculants to abide by the University College’s rules and regulations so that together, they can maintain the good name of the institution.
Prof. Kwawukume made these remarks when delivering a speech at the May 2024 Matriculation and Graduation ceremony of Family Health University College, held at Teshie, opposite Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Training Centre in Accra.
“As an institution, we are dedicated to guiding and inspiring you to greater heights. We have ultra-modern facilities and equipment to enrich your learning experience. Our faculty, administrators, technical and support staff, are well trained and competent and will be available to give you the needed support. Whether you are studying to become a nurse or a doctor, here at Family Health University College, we operate as a big family unit, and as such, all members are expected to conduct themselves and relate to each other with respect and dignity”.
This year, Prof. Enyonam Yao Kwawukume hinted, marks the final year of the insttution’s five-year strategic plan, set out to address some of its challenges and to enhance its relevance and vibrancy. I am glad to announce that majority of the goals set out in the strategic plan have been achieved.
The former Provost of the College of Health Sciences of the University of Ghana, Rev. Prof. P. F. Ayeh-Kumi, advised the matriculants to remember that, learning is a field that keeps changing, and that it is also filled with challenges and opportunities. He advised them to believe in themselves, trust in their abilities, and know that they have the power to make a difference in the world.
Family Health University College is made up of Family Health Medical School and Family Health School of Nursing and Midwifery. The FHUC campus features
the Family Health Hospital, which is a 24-hour Private Hospital that provides comprehensive healthcare services to clients in Ghana and beyond.
Family Health Medical School (FHMS) is the Premier Private Medical School in Ghana. It was established in 2014 by Prof E. Y. Kwawukume and Dr S. B. Kwawu kume with 16 students in the Undergraduate Medical Program. The students were joined later by 14 Graduate Students in the GEMP program. The School has a Vision of being a prime centre for the education and training of health professionals for the advancement of human health within an inclusive community. It intends to attract and develop a talented academic workforce in an enriched intellectual, technological, and multicultural environment to promote applied research and education. It further envisages cultivating and maintaining programmes to provide the highest standards of ethics, integrity and compassionate care.
Family Health School of Nursing and Midwifery is equipped with modern facilities and staffed with dedicated lecturers to provide world-class nursing and midwifery training.
The School offers Bachelor of Science degree programmes in Nursing and in Midwifery, as well as certificate programme in Nurse Assistant Clinical (NAC).
Family Health Medical School is affiliated to the University of Ghana and accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) of Ghana, whilst the School of Nursing and Midwifery is affiliated to University for Development Studies, Tamale, and accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and GTEC.
