A verification and fact-checking organization, Dubawa, in partnership with Google News Initiative has equipped over 40 Journalists with fact-checking skills at Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
The 2 Day, Digital Skills and Fact-checking Training for the media practitioners was held at Baca Hotel with participants selected from some Regions in the country.
The Programme Officer at Dubawa Madam Roselena Ahiable took the journalists through the project overview and its objectives.
A facilitator, Mr. Nathaniel Kyere Bekoe on his part, enlightened participants on the understanding of Information Disorder.
Fact-checking: Steps and Methodology was presented by Mr. Nathan Gadugah whilst, Dr. Aurelia Ayisi from University of Ghana also tackled Digital Safety and Security for Journalists.
Mr. Augustine Brako during his session educated journalist on Digital Verification Skills and Tools Verifying Ai content, Image verification, Video verification, archiving tools, and fact-check exploration tools.
Madam Roselena Ahiable also elaborate on Google Tools for Fact-checking: (Google Pinpoint, Google Maps & Street View, Advanced Search, etc)
She also took the participants through News and Claim Sourcing Tools (Google News,Trends, Flourish, Google Alerts, etc.
Mr. Tanko Zakariah Musah, UNIMAC-GIJ handled, using the RTI in fact-checking
Elections Reporting, Fact-checking and Observer Networks: Leveraging Lessons for upcoming election was presented by Mr. Nathan Gadugah
At the end of the 2 Day training programme, the journalists were equipped with the necessary skills and tools to produce a reliable reports in their day to day activities.
