GEMS FOR MEDITATION AND PRAYER

THEME FOR THE WEEK: CALLED, CHOSEN, AND SENT

SUNDAY

THEME: OUR UNIQUE CALLING

SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 3:1
“Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,”

REFLECTIONS:

Everybody delights in being recognized and invited to a special occasion. Often, we put away many other engagements to accommodate such unique invitations because it is a privilege and possibly a rare opportunity. We ensure we remember the details of the invitation because we prize it highly. Similarly, God extends to us an invitation to the kingdom of His Son, Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior of humankind. How are you treating this everlasting invitation? Paul states in 1 Corinthians 1:26, “For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.”

Human beings have been given a unique opportunity in God, which many people do not either understand or appreciate its value.  Sin brought death to each of us, but Christ Jesus brought us life and glory. This is not a minor deal or investment. Hebrews 2:16-18 provides insight into the special favor God has extended to us in Christ – “[16]For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. [17]Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. [18]For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.” We are assured of constant help.
With the privilege we have been given, Hebrews 3:1 encourages us – “Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus.” We have a unique calling from Christ to be God’s children and remain faithful to Him. Jesus continues to be our example of good works and reflection of the character of God.  What is important is for everyone to realize that our calling is individual, and Christ is our only PERFECT STANDARD! If you look to any human being, you may miss your everlasting appointment with God. Therefore, consider Jesus Christ, who was sent and died for you. Be focused on your calling and perfect your walk with Christ.

This week, we want to emphasize that you have been called, and this Christian calling gives you a special consideration and favor that you must cherish and treasure for your well-being and future. Your calling is in Christ; walk in Christ and remain in Christ.

MY SONG OF COMMITMENT
SDAH 279 – “Only Trust Him”

LET US PRAY

– Praise and thank God for a new week; thank God for His unique invitation to you; pray to focus on Jesus and remain faithful in your calling;

– Pray for members of your church that you will promote unity and love to support each one to be faithful to the heavenly calling;

– Pray for those in the valley of decision to follow Christ; pray for those who have given up their faith because they looked to people and not Christ;

– Pray for people you know experiencing unpleasant situations; pray for any Christian whose life is damaging to Christ’s character; pray for peace in the country.
