Some residents of East Legon in the Greater Accra Region have accused the Minister of Energy, Hon, Mathew Opoku Prempeh of deploying land guards to terrorized the neighbourhood over a land tussle with a businessman.
The residents who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that the Energy Minister after failed attempts to use the National Security and other state machinery to fight over the land which he claimed to belong to his stepmother has decided to deploy the services of land guards resulting in the residents living in fear.
According to the residents, the land guards are seen at various points in the neibourghood smoking indian herb and other substances with impunity and bragging that they were deployed by the Energy Minister hence not even the police can stop them.
They revealed that the businessman has been in pocession of the two plots of land at Okponglo behind the Oak Plaza Hotel since 2011 and has even put up a two bedroom house on the land with a caretaker and therefore engaging the services of land guards by NAPO is a clear disregard of the law.
They have therefore called on President Nana Addo Dankwa and Dr. Mahamoudu Bawumia to as a matter of urgency call the Minister of Energy to order and restore peace and order in the neighbourhood.
They advised Minister to use lawful means to approach the businessman for a settlement and not to use the services of land guards to terrorized the neighbourhood adding that the businessman engaged Mathew Opoku Prempeh in a telephone conversation where he accepted that he was the one who invaded the land because it belongs to his stepmother.
In his response the Minister of Energy described the accusations as “NONSENSE” daring who ever has documents and title to the land to come and prove that the land belongs to him.
“We have taken our documents to the Assembly and the Police. Let them go there with theirs” he ranted.
You can ask them to bring their documents and let my family bring theirs to you to show who has documents to that land”
“MacDan has tried to take it over using machomen and hiding behind faceless people. He thinks bringing my name in will dent my image. Well we can go to the courts as well”
According to the Minister, his stepmom willed the land in question to her children who are his “siblings”
