THEME: COMPLETE HELP FROM THE INVINCIBLE GOD

SCRIPTURE: Jeremiah 1:19
“They will fight against you, But they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you,” says the Lord, “to deliver you.”

REFLECTIONS

It is always exciting to have someone who is more robust and mightier to come to your aid when the enemy attempts to attack or mistreat you. Across the world, many people, for obvious reasons, cannot express themselves for fear of being oppressed, suppressed, or intimidated. The wicked continues to taunt the weak, but God is the hope for those who have no power.

Many places in the Bible encourage believers not to fear.  “Fear not” or “do not be afraid” abound in the Old and New Testaments. God tells all who believe in Him to be fearless, bold, and courageous because He can defend and protect them. Anyone who doubts God’s word is without security because apart from God, there is no other security worth its name.  That is why the psalmist said in Psalms 20:7-8 – “[7]Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the Lord our God. [8]They have bowed down and fallen; But we have risen and stand upright.” The other gods are human creations; they are no gods and have no power, but our God does wield power. Remember this and remain resolute in Christ.

Anyone who comes to God should know and understand that you have the right to tap into the strength of God daily; there is no limit to how much backing and support you can get from God. It is heartening to remind yourself of this promise in Malachi 3:6, “For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.” There will be challenges, trials, difficulties, persecutions, hatred, and unfair attacks, but God remains your defense and judge. The choice to follow Christ, in most cases, becomes the source of hatred and mistreatment. But the good news is that God will always defend His own. He has promised: “. . . for those who honor Me I will honor,”- 1 Samuel 2:30.

God called Jeremiah on a mission. God foretold him the stiff opposition he would face as part of his orientation. As usual, when God sends, He equips. He equipped Jeremiah to carry out the responsibility. God told the young prophet, “They will fight against you, But they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you,” says the Lord, “to deliver you.” That is an exciting statement from God.  Because He has sent Jeremiah on His mission, the people will hate him, oppose and fight him physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. Immediately after stating the fact, God added: “But they shall not prevail against you.” Amen and Amen. He will make Jeremiah invincible. No faithful child of God will be defeated in any way by the enemies of God – at worst, they may kill the body, but they cannot kill the will and the soul (Matthew 10:28).

Why the enemy and his cohorts will remain defeated always is that God promises: “For I am with you,” . . . to deliver you.” Divine presence and intervention go with you everywhere, every moment. May the prayer of Psalms 20:1-2 be your portion – “[1]May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble; May the name of the God of Jacob defend you; [2]May He send you help from the sanctuary, And strengthen you out of Zion;”  Amen.
