THEME: GOD’S INVINCIBILITY: HUMAN’S SECURITY
SCRIPTURE: Deuteronomy 11:25
“No man shall be able to stand against you; the Lord your God will put the dread of you and the fear of you upon all the land where you tread, just as He has said to you.”
REFLECTIONS
Yesterday, we emphasised God’s invincibility. The power He wields to do what He desires, and no contender can defeat Him. The good news is that His invincibility is a great blessing to humanity. Those who trust God are also undefeatable. They ride on the strength of their indomitable God, Captain and Champion. Every faithful follower of God is protected, preserved, and on God’s security radar.
Israel’s leader, Moses, constantly reminded the people who came out of Egypt about God’s love and favor for them. The people were so forgetful that they could not grow up trusting God always. They allowed fear to grip them when previously they had witnessed the mighty hand of God perform tremendous and marvelous deeds and defy all enemy plans under similar circumstances. Moses felt it was absurd for the people of Israel not to love and obey God because in loving and obeying Him, they had experienced bountiful blessings from God and extraordinary deliverance. The Red Sea of hindrance parted and gave them free passage; a pillar of cloud and fire of protection stood between them and the Egyptian Army; when they were severely thirsty, water gushed out of the rock, and the deserts were flooded with water; enemies who dared them were defeated, and without a fight, the walls of Jericho crumbled down – all at the instance of God’s mighty power. As often as they received God’s grace, they had a corresponding constant forgetfulness. They knew very well that obedience and love for God were two essential ingredients that made them invincible to their enemies.
Moses, so convinced about God’s desire to keep His people, told them in Deuteronomy 11:22-23,25, “[22]“For if you carefully keep all these commandments which I command you to do—to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him— [23]then the Lord will drive out all these nations from before you, and you will dispossess greater and mightier nations than yourselves. [25]No man shall be able to stand against you; the Lord your God will put the dread of you and the fear of you upon all the land where you tread, just as He has said to you.” What a promise of invincibility made possible to humans by the Omnipotent God. If you have this assurance, why would you be afraid or allow life’s pains, disappointments, and sufferings to make you forget God’s power to deliver you?
The people’s experiences with the power of God were so convincing that to disobey God and suffer instead was an unwise decision. God’s love for His people was exceptional. Obedience remains vital in our walking with God. Love makes obedience natural and possible. Moses urged the people to choose the blessings of God by obeying His instructions, statutes, and commandments for their survival and victory. Beloved, if you love your God, walk in all His ways, and hold fast to Him, you have the guarantee that He will take care of the impediments in your life, including sickness, financial challenges, relational problems, family fracas and related undue pressure, delayed pregnancy and childbirth or marriage, and behavioural inconsistencies. Remember, if you love God, no one can stand against you, and He will put the dread and fear of you in those who are against you. God, through His relationship with you, makes you invincible!
