2927 Event Center CEO calls for Comedy Support

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for 2927 Event Center at Tesano in the Greater Accra Region, Madam Judith Cato Addison, has entreated Ghanaians to support the Comedy Sector to sustain the consistent and its vibrance in Ghana.

She made this statement in an interview during two years celebration of Comedy Club backed with innovation, hard work and progress.

The Two years Anniversary was participated by seasoned Comedians from both Ghana and Nigeria including O.B Amponsah, Lekzy Decomic, D.K.B Ghana and others.

Madam Judith Cato Addison revealed that in other countries, there are a lot of Comedy Clubs which offers opportunities to young Comedians to showcase their talents and supported develop in the industry.

Madam Addison said, there is the need for every comedian to find a platform to test his or her jokes to boost confidence before moving to a bigger platform hence, the opportunity given to Comedy Club to use 2927 Event Center for training to improve their Comedy shows.

“This is a very good platform for all Comedians. You have to test the jokes and know if it can work on a bigger platforms. The young ones are feeling like at this point, they should have their own show which wasn’t the case in the past”.

The Comedy Club he stated, has helped individual Comedians to build confidence in the act.

The Club she indicated have not decided to take any registration fee from Comedians at the moment adding that, all that one has to do is to walk to 2927 and meet big boys like O.B Amponsah, Lekzy Decomic etc. who would encourage and help them to crack their jokes.

The Comedy Club she averred, is making sure there is always a new jokes to tell on a bigger platform.

Ghanaian Comedians he mentioned, are now getting International rcognition which is a clear indication that they are improving day by day.

According to her, one of their challenge has to do with lack of comedy industry in the country. “We need to actually have some regulatory body that is interested in pushing for government”.

A Stand Up Comedian, Radio and TV host at EIB Network, Lekzy Decomic on his part averred that, Comedians need a club where they can tried their new materials added that, it is something that Ghanaian Comedy lacks for long time.

He hinted that within just two years of the establishment of the Comedy Club at 2927, it have become a great help as they go there every Thursday to try their new materials.

“The same faces keep on coming to watch and you can’t be telling them the same old jokes. It helps you to up your games as a Stand up Comedian and there are advantage that it gives you because, the audience that comes there are from diverse background. Some are foreigners and some are from within”.

Lekzy Decomic pointed out that, since he attached himself with 2927 platform, every year, he has about one to two hours strong materials to tell others saying, for a Comedian to have about two hour materials is like having jokes in excess because, you can only do maximum of one hour 30 minutes on a platform.

The new platform he indicated, has unearth a lot of talents.

He emphasized that, consistency in performance improves Comedians confidence to embark on bigger platforms like the National Theater.

He called on Corporate world to support the Comedy industry like the way European countries are taking advantage of the Comedy industry which is one of the best creative tools to jab their competitors in the market.

He further urged the media to stop giving all their attention to only the music industry and also, focusing on Stand Up comedy. “60 percent of Comedians in Ghana have done their own specials without any main stream support”.
